National Eating Disorders Awareness Week​

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (NEDAW) is a national campaign to raise awareness about eating disorders, challenge stigma, and provide hope and support to all those impacted.

In 2026, NEDAW took place February 23–March 1, with the theme Every BODY Belongs. Eating disorders affect 30 million Americans across all ages, sizes, races, genders, and backgrounds. Too often, people go unseen or unsupported due to stigma, misinformation, and barriers to care. During NEDAW, we come together to fight for change, share resources, and remind everyone that Every BODY Belongs.

Thank you for showing up during NEDAW!

Because of the NEDA community, thousands of people were able to find support, information, and connection throughout the week. Together we saw:

  • 123,054 people accessed NEDA’s information and resources
  • 2,681 screenings for eating disorders were completed 
  • 938 collaborators joined us across the country
  • 3,090 people participated in NEDAW events

Every number represents someone reaching out, learning more, sharing their story, or supporting someone they care about. People across the country also shared messages of hope on social media, helping spread awareness and reminding thousands that they are not alone.

NEDAW Athletes Panel Discussion

In collaboration with Athlete EDGE® at Edcares, join us for a candid discussion with elite athletes on the pressures of competitive sports, eating disorders, and the journey to recovery. Panelists Amanda Sobhy, Professional Squash Player; Alice Merryweather, Former Olympic Alpine Skier, Athlete EDGE® Ambassador; and Danny O’Connor, Champion Boxer & Mental Health Advocate share their experiences navigating treatment, performance expectations, and returning to sport.

Topics include seeking help, balancing health and performance, and creating safer, more supportive athletic environments. This discussion is ideal for athletes, coaches, clinicians, and advocates committed to fostering a culture where Every BODY Belongs.

Learning Session: Beyond Willpower: Understanding the Psychology of Emotional Eating

Beyond Willpower: Understanding the Psychology of Emotional Eating Learning Session

This 30-minute learning session explores the psychological drivers behind emotional eating, comfort eating, and binge behaviors. Hosted by Shivani Dutt, Manager, Mission Initiatives, and featuring clinical expert Sondra Kronberg, MS, RD, CEDRD-S, the session helps participants understand the difference between biological hunger and emotional coping, build greater awareness of their relationship with food, and access resources for disordered eating support.

In this presentation, Paula Edwards-Gayfield, LCMHCS, LPC, CEDS-C, BC-TMH, NEDA Clinical Advisor, explores how trauma, anxiety, and depression intersect with disordered eating, shaping emotional avoidance across cultural and intergenerational contexts. Participants will learn culturally and trauma-informed assessment strategies to distinguish disordered behaviors from culturally normative practices while centering clients’ lived experiences. The session focuses on identifying avoidance patterns, strengthening emotion tolerance, and using identity-affirming interventions to support accurate diagnosis and equitable care.

Webinar: Eating Disorders & Co-Occurring Complex PTSD: Research Gaps & Clinical Challenges

In collaboration with The Dorm, this workshop explores co-occurring eating disorders and complex PTSD, a treatment area often overlooked. Participants will review PTSD, cPTSD, and dsPTSD definitions, examine their prevalence among individuals with eating disorders, and learn trauma-informed approaches to support positive clinical outcomes.

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (NEDAW) brings together individuals with lived experience, families, friends, students, educators, coaches, professionals, and organizations to raise awareness and deepen understanding of eating disorders.

Advocate for Change

Eating disorders are a serious public health issue, yet too many people go undiagnosed, lack access to prevention, or fall through gaps in care. In New Jersey, Bill A2735 is a critical first step toward change. The bill would establish a New Jersey Office of Disordered Eating Prevention and Research to study the root causes of eating disorders, strengthen prevention efforts, and coordinate a statewide response. This legislation can position New Jersey as a national leader in eating disorders prevention. Add your voice—use our call and email templates to urge lawmakers to act.

This bill helps fund critical research and prevention efforts into disordered eating in New Jersey.
